Latest from Sports - Baseball kissed by Monroe, signed by DiMaggio to go on sale for $20K

London, July 27 (ANI): A baseball kissed by Marilyn Monroe and signed by New York Yankees baseball team - including legend Joe DiMaggio - is set to go on sale for at least 20,000 dollars.

The ball, which has been locked in a box and stored in a closet for the best part of half a century, still bears the red lipstick mark of Monroe from when the blonde bombshell kissed it in 1952.

The ball symbolises the love affair between the Hollywood screen siren and the sporting hero, which made them one of America's most famous couples.

It is one of 15 balls signed by the 1952 World Champion Yankees, which were then given to the players of a softball team who won a league organised by film studios 20th Century Fox.

This particular ball was given to sound editor Eddie D'Orazio and, following his death in 1969, it was passed down to his eldest son.

The joint Major League and Hollywood artefact will be sold to the highest bidder at the Vintage Sports Collectibles Platinum Auction in Chicago on August 4.

"Let's just say that this baseball lived a dream shared by countless millions of red-blooded American males, smooched by the definitive blonde bombshell at her most famous," the Daily Mail quoted Mark Jordan, consignment director for Heritage Auctions, which is hosting the sale, as saying.
