SYDNEY (AP) — Australian backrower Richard Brown is due to undergo shoulder surgery Thursday which will rule him out of this year's Rugby World Cup.
The 23-test veteran dislocated his right shoulder early last year but decided to play on, appearing for the Wallabies in the Tri-Nations tournament and on their end-of-year tour to Europe.
Brown said while he was disappointed to miss the World Cup it was now essential to have surgery to ensure he is fit for the 2012 season and beyond.
He says he "tried to push through it for as long as I could but the time has come where it's just not an option anymore."
