SHANGHAI (AP) — Four-time Olympian Therese Alshammar of Sweden has won the women's 50-meter freestyle on the final night of the world swimming championships.
Alshammar finished in 24.14 seconds ahead of two swimmers from the Netherlands — Ranomi Kromowidjojo in 24.27 to take silver and Marleen Veldhuis earned the bronze.
Defending champion and world record holder Britta Steffen of Germany did not attempt to qualify for the race after having several substandard performances earlier in the meet.
