Somerset's captain Alfonso Thomas won an important toss and chose to bowl in a match Royal Challengers Bangalore must win to stay alive in the Champions League Twenty20. There was rain in the evening in Bangalore but it did not prevent the game from starting on time. The forecast, however, was for more rain at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Somerset have three points from a victory against Kolkata Knight Riders and a washout against South Australia. They played the same XI they would have fielded against South Australia. The Royal Challengers made one change, bringing in Arun Karthik, who will keep wicket, for Mohammad Kaif.
The Royal Challengers are the only team without a point in the tournament and a third defeat will eliminate them. Victory for Somerset will almost ensure a semi-final berth.
