    Makkah voters register for civic election

    MAKKAH: A total 181 voters registered their names at 28 voting centers in Makkah during the first day of registration for the municipal elections that are to be held in September.

    The registration process, which started on Saturday, will continue for 27 days, said Jamal Hindi, chairman of the Information Center Committee for the municipal elections. He said that 45 voters registered their names at 25 centers in Makkah, 33 in Jamoum, 75 in Asfan and 28 in Madrakah. “The registration of voters went according to the program in all centers,” he added.

    Amin Naib Al-Haram, deputy chairman of the Elections Committee in Makkah, visited the registration centers to check preparations and hear the remarks and observations of chairmen. Various officials accompanied him during the visits.

    The media committee for the elections has continued its intensive campaign to enlighten people about the importance of the elections and the need to vote. The media committee has also visited Um Al-Qura University, the Department of Education and other government and private institutions where it has distributed booklets, pamphlets and fliers.
