    World News - Woman and child die in house fire

    10 September 2011 Last updated at 06:03 ET A woman in her 20s and a young boy have died and three people have been injured in a fire at a terraced house in Kent.

    The fire, which is being treated as suspicious, started in Chatham Hill, Chatham, at 02:30 BST.

    One of those injured is a man who is in a life-threatening condition in East Grinstead Hospital with serious burns.

    Another man suffered serious injuries and a woman suffered burn and smoke inhalation injuries. They were both taken to the Medway Maritime Hospital.

    Arson attacks Neighbouring houses had to be evacuated at the height of the fire.

    Kent Police confirmed that the fire was being treated as suspicious and officers were investigating the possibility of a link with a series of arson attacks in the area.

    Ch Supt Neil Jerome said: "This is a tragic incident and we have launched a joint investigation with Kent Fire and Rescue Service to establish exactly what has happened.

    "We are keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the area at around the time of the fire.

    "If anyone was walking or driving in Chatham Hill in the early hours of this morning and has any information, no matter how insignificant it may appear, I urge them to contact Kent Police."

    Chatham Hill is currently closed and motorists are being advised to avoid the area.
