British victims of alleged phone hacking by the News of the World are to launch legal action in the US against parent company News Corporation.
US lawyers are expected to launch the action against Rupert Murdoch's media group in New York next week.
"Although events might have happened in territories abroad, the American organisation can be responsible," said UK lawyer Mark Lewis.
UK subsidiary News International has already agreed some settlements.
