    Al-Qarni inspects Haj preparations

MAKKAH: Commander of the Civil Defense Haj forces Maj. Gen. Muhammad bin Abdullah Al-Qarni on Thursday said his forces are ready to deal promptly with any emergencies during the Haj season.

Al-Qarni made this statement while inspecting the Civil Defense units in the holy sites. Al-Qarni, who was accompanied by a number of high-ranking officers, visited first the units in Mina before proceeding to Muzdalifah and Arafat.

He listened to detailed briefings by the Civil Defense commanders in the holy sites about their readiness to deal with any emergency situation. The commanders also briefed him about the problems they might face and the means that they would use to resolve them under the comprehensive Civil Defense Haj plan.

Al-Qarni said the Directorate General of Civil Defense was keen to provide all resources to its Haj forces so as to enable them to carry out their duties perfectly.

“We are determined to preserve the safety and security of the guests of God from the time of their arrival in the Kingdom until their departure back home,” he said.

Al-Qarni reiterated that the Civil Defense units are at the highest degree of readiness and added that every unit was well aware of its duties and tasks.

“This high readiness was a result of the great efforts exerted over the past days,” he said, adding that a number of drills would be held to ensure complete preparedness to face any eventualities.

Al-Qarni said the Civil Defense would be working in complete coordination with other concerned parties including the ministries of Haj and health, the Makkah municipality, the Red Crescent, the medical services department of the National Guard, the National Water Company and the authority for the development of Makkah and the Holy Sites.

He said a center for the coordination of operations was set up in Mina and would be working round the clock. He said the Civil Defense personnel have been accommodated near the Jamrat bridge to be able to intervene immediately in any situation there.

“Accommodating them away from the Jamrat area would impede their work as they would not be able to reach the area quickly in case of any emergency,” he explained.

Al-Qarni said all the possible scenarios that might occur during Haj were taken into account and would be dealt with on the spot.
