Naif: Right man in right place

JEDDAH: Prominent Saudi officials, businessmen and academics have welcomed the appointment of Prince Naif as the new crown prince and deputy premier and said he is right person in the right place at the right time.

They wished him every success to steer the country to greater progress and prosperity. “This was widely expected,” said Muhammad bin Ahmed Tayeb, director general of the Foreign Ministry’s office in Makkah province, about the appointment. “Prince Naif has been a partner of the Kingdom’s leadership for decades,” he said, commending the crown prince’s long-standing experience as an administrator.

“We are confident that Prince Naif would support the drive to lead the Kingdom to greater progress and prosperity and enhancing its international position and reputation,” Tayeb told Arab News.

He said there would not be any major change in the Kingdom’s domestic or foreign policy as a result of Naif’s appointment. “Prince Naif is also a great reformist and has been extending every support to the king’s reform programs,” he added.

Shoura Council Chairman Abdullah Al-Asheikh congratulated Prince Naif and said the new appointment came in recognition of his great contributions toward the development of the Kingdom. “He is not only the country’s topmost security man, but also a great statesman,” he said.

Al-Asheikh said Naif was successful in tackling many sensitive issues that faced the country with wisdom, adding that he defeated Al-Qaeda terrorists by launching a massive campaign against them. As chairman of the Supreme Haj Committee, Naif ensured the security and safety of pilgrims.

Professor Abdulelah Saaty, dean of the College of Business in Rabigh, was equally happy over Naif’s appointment. “He is the right person in the right place at the right time,” he said and thanked King Abdullah and the Allegiance Commission for taking a quick decision.

He commended Naif’s leadership qualities and his efforts to safeguard the country’s security. Saaty hoped the prince would focus on solving the country’s unemployment problem.

“Prince Naif has been the champion of Saudization program as he presided over the Manpower Development Council. Creating jobs for thousands of unemployed Saudis is very crucial and I am sure he would focus his attention on this important issue.”

Abdullah Al-Saihati, chairman of Saihati Group in the Eastern Province, congratulated Naif and the Saudi people on the new appointment.

“We have full confidence in Prince Naif that he would continue the development programs like Prince Sultan and wish him every success in his new position.” He expected King Abdullah and Prince Naif would continue to extend their generous support to the economic and business sector to boost the country’s development.

Another prominent businessman Abdul Rahman Al-Jeraisy, chairman of the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said Naif has done a great job in the past years as a senior administrator of the country.

“He has won the respect and appreciation of not only Saudis but also the international community for the way he reined in terrorists and militants and foiled their nefarious operations,” he said.

Minister of Islamic Affairs Saleh Al-Sheikh hailed the decision and appreciated the trust reposed by the king in Prince Naif. Ahmed ibn Mohammad Al-Saif, deputy minister of higher education, lauded the achievements of Prince Naif, saying, “The prince has always been on the forefront of solving problems faced by the Arab and Islamic Ummah.”

He added: “Prince Naif’s role as interior minister has been commendable, especially in introducing a rehabilitation program for the deviant group,” said Al-Saif, adding, his contributions to help Palestine, Somalia and many other nations are also noteworthy.
