Top Sudanese honor for Alwaleed

Chairman of Kingdom Holding Company (KHC) Prince Alwaleed bin Talal was awarded Sudan’s Republic Medal, First Degree, by Sudanese President Omar Bashir during his recent visit to the country.
The medal is Sudan’s highest civilian honor.
The award ceremony in Khartoum was attended by Sudan's first lady and Princess Ameerah Al-Taweel, vice chairwoman of Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation and delegations from Alwaleed Foundation and the KHC.
The Sudanese president and first lady welcomed them warmly and hosted a luncheon in their honor at the presidential palace in the presence of government officials.
Bashir and Prince Alwaleed discussed a number of social and economic issues in addition to bilateral relations.
The prince also met with Ali Ahmed Karty, Sudan's minister of foreign affairs, and discussed investment opportunities in various sectors such as agriculture.
Prince Alwaleed said the Alwaleed Foundation would continue to support Sudan.
In 2003,Prince Alwaleed donated 80 tons of relief supplies for Sudanese flood victims to help the government deal with the massive devastation in some eastern provinces of the country. The shipment contained tents, blankets, medical supplies, hygiene service requirements and water pumps that were shipped from Riyadh to Agiler by a private cargo jet. Earlier that year, Prince Alwaleed donated $10,000 each to the families of 115 people who lost their lives in a Sudanese plane crash.
