A prosecutor says seven members of a US militia accused of planning to attack law enforcement to try to incite rebellion were willing to “go to war.”
Assistant US Attorney Christopher Graveline showed jurors a video clip Monday during opening statements at the militia members’ trial in which the group’s leader, David Stone, declares, “Welcome to the revolution.”
Stone’s attorney, William Swor, told jurors there was no plan to attack the government and that Stone was instead preparing to fight the “anti-Christ.”
The seven were among nine members of the militia, called Hutaree, arrested in March 2010. Prosecutors say the group discussed killing a police officer at some point and then attacking the officer’s funeral procession.
Defense attorneys say the militia members merely engaged in boastful talk.
