Maldives Parliament GETS minority leader
Abdulla Yameen Adbul Gayoom, the half brother of the former autocratic leader Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, on Monday became the minority leader of the Maldivian Parliament. Gayoom’s Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) was recognised an an official party in the Parliament after it won the vacant Thimarafushi constituency seat in last week’s by-election. The PPM presently has 17 MPs, placing it only behind the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in terms of the size of its parliamentary representation.
