US asks Nepal parties to put aside partisan differences
The US on Tuesday asked all political parties in Nepal to show flexibility and set aside their differences to resolve the current stalemate, warning that their activities may negatively impact the climate for foreign investment.
“Now it is time for the political leadership in Nepal to show flexibility and its time for all the parties to put aside whatever partisan differences they have and try to come together to reach consensus for the sake of the country,” said visiting US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, Robert O’ Blake.
Blake also cautioned the political parties in Nepal that their activities might negatively “impact the activities of the business community and the climate for foreign investment.”
“It is therefore, important to try to reach a consensus as soon as possible,” he pointed out.
“Its up to the Nepalese political leadership to take steps that are necessary to establish democracy in Nepal,” Blake said.
“I think all of them are committed to do which I have found during my talks with political leaders here,” he added.
In a question regarding removal of the Maoists from US terror list, he said “the Maoists made significant efforts to support peace, democracy and reconciliation in Nepal.
