Francis Kallarackal installed as Varappuzha Archbishop
Kochi: Rev. Francis Kallarakal was installed as the Metropolitan Archbishop of Varappuzha on Sunday at a ceremony organised at St Albert's School ground. The ceremony was led by Cardinal Telesphor Placidus Toppo, Archbishop of Ranchi. The ceremony was attended by bishops, priests, religious leaders and thousands of faithfuls. Rev. Kallarakal and the Cardinal were received at the entrance by a 105-member choir from the Cochin Arts and Communications . He was accompanied by as many as 300 priests and metropolitans. Hundred children carried festooned umbrellas on both sides of the entrance. They were then welcomed by Archdiocesan Administrator Bishop Joseph Karikkassery.
The order from Rome appointing Rev. Kallarakal as the Archbishop was read out in Latin by Archdiocesan Chancellor Varghese Valiaparampil. A Malayalam translation of the Latin order was also read out immediately.
Later Cardinal Toppo led Rev. Kallarakal to the ceremonial chair and handed over to him the staff as the symbol of his pastoral duties as the head of the Archdiocese.
