'Census-2011' begins
Thiruvananthapuram : 'Census-2011,' the biggest exercise to record the socio-economic-cultural profile of the people in the state, began here today. Kerala Governor R S Gavai and his household were first enumerated by the Census officials, including Kerala Census Operations Director Dr V M Goplala Menon, according to official sources here.
''Census-2011,'' aimed at creating Houselisting and Housing Census and National Population Register (NPR), is said to be a treasure house for planning development work.
The Census operation, in two phases, would be completed in 45 days in all the 14 districts in the state. The first phase would complete on May 27 next.
The second phase would begin on February five and conclude on March Five next year.
Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan and Opposition Leader Oommen Chandy would be enumerated on April 16.
About 58,000 enumerators and around 10,000 supervisors were assigned for the task, the sources added.
The Census of India, which began on April one, is the most massive operation for compiling statistics anywhere in the world.
