    Athirapilly:The authorities have implemented strict ban on the use of plastic in Athirapilly Vazhachal forest area. DFO A Ranjan informed that only paper bags will be allowded from Tuesday onwards in the area. The move comes after a feature 'Kattile Kola' was published in Mathrubhumi weekend, on the hazardous effects posed by plastic wastes littered by tourists. The feature unveiled a shocking picture of how animals were being brutally killed after consuming plastic wastes. DFO sadi that he feature will strengthen their efforts against plastic. Plastic bags will be collected from the tourists at the check post and in turn they will be provided with paper bags for Rs 5 per bag. The paper bags made by Parambikkulam Forest Protection Council will be supplied here. The forest department is striving hard to remove the plastic wastes from the sector within three days. Those who are travelling through the state road through the forest will be provided with receipt where a list of the plastic materials in the travellers custody will be recorded in that. When they reach Malakkappara check post that receipt will be checked with the platsic items, and if any item found missing, fine will be charged. The copy of the feature 'Kattile Kola' will be exhibited in the entrance to the Athirapilly forest and a notice to avoid the use of plastic will be placed.
