Keralites on board hijacked ship unknown: Govt sources
Thiruvananthapuram : The exact number of Keralites on board the cargo ship hijacked by Somalian pirates on April 11 near Seychelles while en route Zanzibaris was not known immediately, government sources told UNI here today. However, according to media reports, four Keralites were believed to be held captive aboard ''M V Rak Africana''.
Roji B John of Pathanamthitta and V Vishnu, a marine engineering trainee, from Thiruvananthapuram, were reportedly among the captives Vishnu's family was informed about by a Dubai-based shipping company.
Similar information was also received by the family members of John of Kodunthara in Pathanamthitta.
The details of other two Keralites were not known. They were as many as 26 crew members on the ship, including 11 Indians.
The family members had appealed for the intervention of Union Minister for Overseas Indians Affairs Vayalar Ravi and Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor in the release of the captives, the sources claimed.
