Waste free forest is our aim-Forest minister
Athirapilly: Forest Minister Binoy Viswom has said that steps will be taken to make Athirapilly forest area a plastic free zone. He was in Athirapilly on Tuesday after seeing the photo feature published in Mathrubhumi on last Sunday 'Kattile Kola'. Minister also met and held discussion with forest officials, environment activists and natives. He also visited Vazhachal. He said that the feature was an eye opener and such positive interference of media is needed to curb such menace.
Paper carry bags will be supplied in the area. The Sabari drinking bottle will be circulated here too as like in Sabariamala to control plastic. Those who gave back the bottle after usage will be provide with Rs 1 per bottle. The plastic wastes collected will be recycled later. Higher officials of forest department also accompanied minister. Engineering college retired professor Dr Jayachandran was also invited to discuss about the refining of plastic. Vigilance squad began probe on the death of a deer by eating plastic.
