Fraction in Joseph group on merger
Thiruvananthapuram: Difference of opinion looming large in the PJ Joseph group over the merger with KM Mani led Kerala Congress (M). Senior leader P C Thomas reiterated that Joseph group will continue in the LDF and it will have representiaon in the cabinet further too. Joseph group state general secretary George Sebastian said that if Joseph has political etiquette, he must quit from the ministry. He said majority of the party members are against merger. If he is not ready to quit the chief minister must oust him for revoking the protocol of front. He alleged that some self-centered leaders are behind the move. Senior leader Scaria Thomas also came forward against merger. It is also reported that merger conference of the both group will be held on June 6 Meanwhile that citing health reasons Joseph is not attending the cabinet meeting today..
Earlier some leaders in Joseph group clarified the merger news and stated that it is not merging with Mani group, but both the parties are uniting to form one party and the new party will be given the name Kerala Congress. The name is the one which was allotted by Election commission to Joseph group. The two leaves (Randila) symbol of Mani will group will be adopted as new symbol of the party.
KM Mani will be the leader of the party and P J Joseph the chairman. Joseph group had demanded for four district presidents post and 7 state members post. It is reported that such matters will be discussed after the merger. PC Thomas of Joseph group will not be in the new party who is against the merger. If he is interested too, Mani and Joseph is not ready to accept him. At the same time, both leaders are eager to bring V SurendranPillai MLA who is with PC Thomas. Both leader contacted Pillai and it is known that Surendran Pillai informed the merger of Kerala Congress as his all time wish.
