Ban P C Thomas from contesting polls: EC recommends Prez
New Delhi: The Central Election Commission has sent a recommendation to the President to disqualify Muvattupuzha former MP P C Thomas from contesting elections. If the President considers the recommendation then Thomas may not be able to contest for three years. Earlier, the Kerala High Court had dismissed the victory of P C Thomas who won from Muvattupuzha Lok Sabha constituency with the backing of the NDA in 2004. The order was based on a compliant filed against Thomas for violating election rules. The Supreme court also upheld the HC's decision. Based on this the Election Commision had sent the recommendation.
During the 2004 election, P C Thomas distributed leaflets using the pictures of Pope, Mother Theresa and Bishops. Use of community symbols are against election rules. P C Thomas may not be able to contest elections for three years as the President never rejects such kind of recommendations.
