    Chennai: The CBI had recorded the statement of Deepak Kumar in Chennai who handed over more documents on the case to CBI in the Lavlin case. He was asked to be present in the CBI head office and officials collected statements from him. It is learnt that Deepak, who was a close friend of Dileep Rahulan, who acted as mediator in forming the contract between SNCLavlin and electricity board, has handed over clear cut evidence to CBI. Recently, Deepak handed over 200 page documents to CBI and on the basis of this documents the CBI questioned Deepak. It was through Deepak, who is from Thiruvananthapuram and doing busines in Chennai, that Dileep Rahulan made acquaintance with prominent political personalities in Kerala. Earlier, Deepak disclosed that along with Dileep he met Pinarayi Vijayan several times and the CBI also got information that it was in the presence of Deepak that Dileep handed over the cheque for Malabar Cancer Institute to a prominent political leader. It is learnt that CBI had provided adequate security to Deepak.

    `Mathrubhumi' had learnt that the day after Deepak handed over the documents, a higher police officer in the IB in Kerala contacted him to seek the details of the documents transferred. Fearing suspicion with the official, who has relation with top political leaders of the ruling party, he did not extend the call. The official whom Deepak knows earlier called from a friend's phone.
