Bishops say CM's accusation unfortunate
Kochi : Kerala Catholic Bishops Council (KCBC) today termed as 'unfortunate' Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan's statement that Congress was encouraging Christian and Muslim communal politics. Addressing a press conference here after the KCBC meeting, in which 34 Bishops participated, Council President Dr Joshua Mar Ignathios said such statements would only mar the existing cordial relations between the minorities and the majority Hindus.
He said people should refrain from making such statements with selfish motives.
Dr Joshua said the Council had expressed its resentment on the remark to the Chief Minister.
Mr Achuthanandan had recently accused the Congress of promoting Christian and Muslim communal politics in Kerala.
Regarding the development of the National Highways in the state, Dr Joshua said the Council had opined that the state government's decision to restrict the development to 30m, was against the interests of future generations.
The state government has been advocating development of the Highways to the extent of 30 m, compared to the national specification of 60 m and 45 m.
He said the government should be able to adequately compensate those who give land for the development and rehabilitate them.
