Jaya expresses concern over SL govt engaging Chinese labour
Chennai: Expressing concern over reports that Sri Lankan government was engaging the services of Chinese labour for
reconstructing the infrastructure in the war ravaged eastern and northern areas of the island republic, AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa today said it could be detrimental to India's security from the southern side. 'Indian tax payers money, sent for the benefit of the Tamils in Sri Lanka is ending up in China's kitty', she said in a statement,
referring to the Indian aid of Rs 1000 crore for rehabilitation of internally displaced Tamils in Sri Lanka.
Alleging that Chinese labour force in Sri Lanka has been 'infiltrated with Chinese spies and intelligence personnel, with a specific mandate to commence anti-Indian surveillance and espionage operations from India's hitherto safe sourthern flanks', she said it would deterimental to the country's security.
She raised apprehensions that it could immediatley affect Tamil Nadu as 'Sri Lanka is hardly 20 km away from the sourthern coast of Tamil Nadu.'
'The Indian Government should act before it is too late. It has to talk to Sri Lanka and talk tough,' she said.
Referring to the Rs 1000 crore grants by New Delhi towards recosntruction of war-affected areas, the opposition leader said since the contracts have been awarded to Chinese companies, the Indian tax-payers' money 'sent for the benefit of the Tamils in Sri Lanka, is ending up in China's kitty.' PTI
