RIL pulls down markets; Sensex ends 45 points lower
Mumbai: Snapping a seven-day rally, the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex today fell by 46 points, with market
leader RIL taking a hit of 1.5 per cent. After notching up nearly 1,000 points in the last seven days, the Sensex fell by 45.87 points to end the day at 17,570.82. In the 30-BSE index component, 13 stocks closed with gains, while 17 ended with losses.
The broad-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty also fell by 12.25 points to 5,262.60. India's most valued company, Reliance Industries, unveiled its multi-billion dollar investment plans in the power sector at the company's annual general meeting. However, it failed to cheer the markets and RIL stocks closed down 1.50 per cent. Marketmen said a deep fall was avoided as engineering major Larsen & Toubro advanced. L&T rose by 1.29 per cent. IT major Infosys Technologies also gained Rs 14.25 to Rs 2,781.55. A mixed trading pattern in overseas markets following a rise in US jobless also did not help the market to rise. PTI
