CMS college issue: Student allowed entry for exam
Kottayam: The suspension of a college student here, which led to violence on June 16, reportedly by the student wing of the CPI(M) has been partially revoked, with the management barring him from continuing his studies, but allowing him to write the exams. Officials of CMS college here said that the student, Jaik C Thomas, B A Communicative English would be barred entry to the campus, except at the time of exams and that his transfer certificate would be retained by Mahatma Gandhi University here till he completed all exams. The decision was taken at a meeting convened by the district administration between the college management, SFI representatives and local MLA last night to find an amicable solution to the issue. On June 18 the Kerala High court directed police to grant full protection to the college authorities and its property for the smooth running of the institution Forty-three students, allegedly belonging to SFI were arrested in connection with violence. They destroyed chairs and tables in
the college and shouted slogans in front of the Principal's office, demanding that Thomas be reinstated. The court had earlier granted protection to the life of the principal and staff while considering a petition by him and observed that unruly incidents had taken place even after the order and this was a challenge to the rule of law. Meanwhile, a division bench of Kerala high court yesterday extended until further orders its directive to provide protection to CMS College including its property, staff and students
