Honour killings:Cops prepare couples' list to provide security
Ghaziabad:In the wake of increasing spate of honour killings in Ghaziabad district, police today said they are planning to prepare a list of young couples who have married outside their caste or religion against their parents' wishes and will provide protection to them. 'A register of couples who have entered into wedlock in the recent past or are planning to marry in near future
outside their caste or religion against the wishes of their parents will be maintained at all police stations in the district and they will be provided full protection,' SSP Raghubir Lal said. All cases of kidnapping and suicide of girls will be scrutinised as most of these cases are related to love affairs, he said.
In case of a girl committing suicide and her parents cremate the body without informing police, a fine of Rs 5 lakh would be imposed on them, the SSP said. Fine of same amount would be slapped on parents if they lodge false case of kidnapping after their wards elope with their lovers, he said. PTI
