Indefinite strike by NLC workers ends

Neyveli: The six day indefinite strike by about 14,000 employees of Neyveli Lignite Corporation, demanding revision of wages, among other things, has ended. The workers called off their strike at midnight last night and reported for duty for the first shift this morning, NLC sources said. This followed a tripartite meeting at NLC headquarters at Chennai between Labour Commissioner, Jaganatha Rao, NLC Chief
General Manager Lourdhas, DMK and PMK trade union leaders.

These unions are the ones recognised by the management.

'As per the agreement, wage revision calculated from September 1 2009, as also service weightage and other
allowances. Arrears will be given from June 1 of that year,' Lourdhas told PTI.

NLC sources said the strike had resulted in production loss of about Rs 40 crore.

An agreement had been reached over percentage of increase in wages and allowances that fell due on January 1, 2007, with
management saying it would pay 25 per cent fitment benefit of basic pay from Jan 1 2007, three per cent additional increment
and three per cent additional weightage from Sept 1, 2009 and 40 per cent common allowance from Jan 1, 2010.

But trade unions had been demanding payment of additional increment from January 1, 2007. PTI
