Assembly demands roll back of petroleum products
Thiruvananthapuram:Kerala assembly today passed an unofficial resolution asking the Centre to roll back prices of petroleum
products amid walkout by Congress led UDF opposition members, who demanded an amendment in the resolution. The resolution, moved by R Selvaraj (CPI-M), said recent hike in prices of petroleum products would increase the burden of people. 'The Centre was pushing commonman to the mercy of private oil companies and speculators', the resolution said.
Opposition staged walkout as their demand for amendement in the resolution that the state government wave tax on increased rates on petrol and diesel was rejected by government.
The assembly also passed a resolution demanding the Centre to take steps to reduce fares of flights from Kerala airports to Gulf destinations in view of difficulties faced by Keralities working in these countries.
The resolution, introduced by T N Prathapan (Cong) also asked the Centre to ensure necessary facilities to passengers in flights to those travelling to Gulf countries.
Highlighting the contribution of those working in Gulf to state's economy, Prathapan said airline companies were 'exploitating' Keralities travelling to Gulf countries by 'charging exhorbitant' fare. PTI
