Petrol pumps to remain closed on Monday

Kochi: All Kerala Federation of Petroleum Traders has decided to shut down all petrol pumps on Monday to protest against the decision by public sector oil companies to sanction new petrol pumps in the State . The pumps will remain closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday. A dhrana will also be organized in front of the Hindustan Petroleum company in Irumbanam. The federation official said that the move to sanction new pumps was taken without conducting any feasibility studies and if more companies come to effect that will affect the functioning of existing 25 % pumps..
They said the IOCL, BPCL and HPCL had initiated steps to open nearly 800 petrol pumps this financial year. official said the HPCL had issued notification to start 349 new petrol pumps in July
