Thiruvananthapuram : This year's Onam week celebrations will commence from August 22 with cultural and arts programmes across the state.
Replying to questions, in the Assembly State Law Minister M Vijayakumar in the absence of Tourism Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said the Onam week celebrations would come to an end on August 28 with a colourful procession.
He said cultural and arts programmes would be held at 16 venues in Thiruvananthapuram. The week-long celebration would also see a food festival and a trade festival, he added.
Vijayakumar said one of the attractions of the Onam week celebrations was that the Queen's baton relay as part of the Common Wealth Games would be given a rousing welcome on August 26 here.
Stating that enough funds had been allotted to various districts for conducting various programmes, he said Rs 1.25 crore had been earmarked for the festivals in Thiruvananthapuram, Rs 25 Lakh each for Ernakulam and Kozhikode districts. All the other districts would also get appropriate funds for the various activities to be conducted, he added.
