Atul Setalvad, 76, a Mumbai-based lawyer and father of noted social activist Teesta Setalvad, passed away in Mumbai on Thursday. Atul Setalvad is survived by his wife Sita and two daughters Teesta and Amili. Atul is the son of M. C. Setalvad, an Indian jurist, who became the first and longest serving Attorney General of India.
A man of principle deeply committed to civil liberties and the values of human dignity, he has authored several books and has been in the legal profession for over 50 years. He was also a voracious reader of non-fiction. His law books namely Introduction to Law, Conflict of Laws, Laws of Trusts and Charities and Laws of Sales and Principles of VAT were well received by the legal fraternity.
