A 28-member National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) team led by Commander Deepak Dev, reached Alakkode from Kozhikode today.
The NDMA team will remove the pesticides from Rayrom River at Alakkode after receiving directions from the three-member expert committee of the Gwalior- based Nuclear Biological and Chemical Wing of the Defence Ministry.
The committee is expected to reach Alakkode this evening along with Navy personnel.
The NDMA Team, based at Arkonam in Tamil Nadu, had been camping at Kozhikode, the northern part of the Kerala, to meet monsoon calamities.
People, who had a bath in the Rayrom River, developed health problems, including exhaustion and itches on August two.
Alakkode Police said three bags containing bottles of date expired pesticides and packets had been thrown into the river. The pesticides had been collected from a shop which remained closed for the last 12 years and was rented out to a new establishment now. Police had arrested six people on Monday in this connection and they were remanded at sub jail here.
However, the main accused was absconding. Fire Force personel removed hundreds of packets and bottles since Monday from different parts while clearing the waste.
It was also feared that the pollution would affect the health of the people living along the banks of the river.
