Conduct panchayat polls in one phase: Chandy

Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader Oommen Chandy demanded panchayat elections to be conducted in one phase. For convenience, elections can be conducted for two days instead of a day. The government can't distance itself from the present crisis, he said. The new ruling committee of the panchayat must take the position before October 2, 2010 and the government had failed to perform the proceedings, he alleged.
