Govt returns advance tax collected from lottery agency
Palakkad: The government intensified action against other state lotteries following the sanction to two lotteries banned by the Sikkim government became a row. The Income tax assistant commissioner returned the advance tax paid by lottery distributors in Palakkad to Megha Distributors. For the other state lotteries to be sold here, an advance tax of Rs 7 lakh must be remitted for each lucky draw a month in advance. For selling lotteries in September the tax must be paid by July 30. The sanction given to Bhutan Dear and super lotteries without abiding to the condition of remitting advance tax created a row earlier. The finance minter had suspended the income tax assistant commissioner. The allegation was that no verification was being done in the case of lotteries distributed by Megha Distributors.
