    Manfred and Kathrine laid to rest

    Thiruvananthapuram: German citizens Manfred and Katherine, who were killed when their Innova car rammed the Chennai Express at an unmanned level crossing near Maararikulam, Alapuzha on August 8, were cremated at Thaikad Santhikavadam on Thursday. The cremation was held under the headship of Manfred's close relative Herbert Andrew Ebburg. Herbert is the head of a trust which was formulated to protect the kids of the couple who were adopted, Rupa and Maxlok. The ashes of the couple would be brought to Germany. Herbert, along with the kids, would return to Germany on Saturday.

    Four persons, including two foreign tourists, were killed in the accident which happened at S L Puram level crossing at Poopallikavu at around 10.30 am. The Chennai-Alapuzha Express, going towards Alapuzha, rammed into the car killing three of them on the spot. The foreign couple were staying at a private resort in Alapuzha.
