    Move fresh bill for Munnar land acquisition: Mani

    Kottayam: Kerala Congress leader K M Mani today appealed to the state government to enact a fresh legislation to acquire the Kannan Devan Hills in Munnar. Addressing a press conference here he said at the time on the discussion on the bill in the Assembly, he had pointed out that as it was against the Central Tea Act, the President's assent should be obtained. Otherwise, it would not be valid legally.

    Referring to the decision to give compensation to Tata, he said there was no need for that. Compensation would only help Tatas indirectly.

    It was tantamount to approving Tata's claim on the issue.

    If the government was sincere in acquiring the land, President's assent should be obtained and a fresh bill moved, he demanded.

    Referring to the postponement of Panchayat elections, he charged that the state government was responsible for it. The election commission was also blaming the government in the case. Delimitation of wards was an unnecessary thing. The intention behind it was to make it favourable for the CPI (M) in those wards, he charged
