Thiruvananthapuram:The all-party meet called by chief minister V S Achuthanandan had reached a consensus to develop the national highway in 45-meter width. They also agreed for the BOT system in private partnership. Opposition leader Oommen Chandy, CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan, KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala, Kerala Congress (M) chairman K M Mani, Muslim League general secretary P K Kunhalikutty attended the meet. The CM, while briefing the meet decisions, said that justifiable rehabilitation and market value of each place must be provided to the people from whom the land would be acquired.
The representatives said that those who lose their shops, home should be given jobs and earning facilities. They must be given good compensation and rehabilitation facilities. The NH authority officials, who also attended the meet, ensured that they will approve the compensation package put forward by the state. The CM said majority of the representatives echoed the feeling that they were forced to agree upon the decision as there is no other alternative. But representatives for the Socialist jJanata Democratic and JSS echoed different opinions as they asked them to wait till the prime minister furnishes his reply on a petition filed by Kerala. They also said they can't agree with the BOT system.
