Kozhikode Senior BJP leader P S Sreedharan Pillai today sought intervention of Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan to halt the proposed move to commute life term of a prisoner sentenced for killing a Party leader a few years ago.
Share This Article: Speaking to newspersons here, Mr Pillai, a National Executive Council Member of the Party, said the proposal to commute jail term of Acharampalli Pradeep, a CPI (M) activist, even before completion of seven years in jail, was a blatant violation of rules.
Describing the move as a ''molestation of the jail rules,'' he said the accused, who was initially awarded capital punishment which was later commuted to life imprisonment for killing BJP leader Jayakrishnan before his students in a classroom in Kannur District, did not deserve any further relaxation in punishment.
The move was also against the Kerala High Court directive, which opposed any move to commute sentence of life term before 14 years, Mr Pillai, was is also a leading lawyer, said.
