Kozhikode: Ashraya, a Kollam-based charitable trust, will organise a mass marriage for 140 women hailing from poor families at Thiruvanthapuram in the first week of November this year.
Share This Article: Speaking to newspersons here today, organising committee State Co-ordinator S Babuji and General Convenor Kalayapuram Jose said selection would be made on the basis of one each woman from all the 140 Assembly constituencies in the State.
A committee, comprising the MLA representing the constituency as patron and socio-political activists, would select the deserving persons, they said, adding the trust would provide Rs 50,000, bridal dress, gold chain, among others things, totalling Rs one lakh, besides arranging jobs for the newly-wed couples as per their qualification abroad.
It also proposed free housing for the homeless among them.
A 101-member organising committee comprising former Minister R Balakrishan Pillai as Chairman and Minister P K Gurudasan, C Divakaran and M A Baby, among others, as advisory panel members had been formed for the smooth conduct of the event, they added.
