Kannur : Kerala Minister for Public works M Vijayakumar today said road renovations and improvement works at a total cost of Rs 1,048 crore would commence soon.
Talking to reporters here, he said the proposed works would be complete within four months.
The amount included Rs 330 crore for national highways, Rs 365 crore for resurfacing and Rs 353 for KSTP and other roads, Mr Vijayakumar said.
Stating that the unholy nexus between some PWD officials and contractors should be ended, he said the draft of the rehabilitation package for evictess of the proposed widening and improvement of the national highways was ready and waiting for the Centre's approval.
The final decision in this regard would be taken in the next Assembly meeting, he added.
The State Government would take strong actions, including criminal procedures, against the contractors who were challenging it, Mr Vijayakumar said, adding unholy transfer of PWD officials would not be allowed.
