    Film producer S Pavamani passes away

    Kochi: Film producer S Pavamani, 78, passed away at a private hospital here at 5.45 am . The cremation will be held on Wednesday. He is survived by wife Sherly, son Pratap and daughter Sheeba. Cinematographer Jayanan Vincent is his son-in-law. Pavamani, born as the son of Samuel J Pavamani and Alice, ventured into the film distribution field in 1959 with his brother S L Pavamani. He began distributing Hindi movies and became active in Malayalam with the distribution of the film `Chenda' in 1972 which was produced by A Vincent. He distributed more than 200 films in various languages. In 1978 he was elected as the founder general secretary of Kerala Film Distributors Association.

    In 1975 he began a production company in the name of `Prathap Chithra'. He produced films like Ayodhya, Ayiram Janmangal, Aparadhi, Vilakkum Velichavum, Ponnum Poovum, Kaliyil Alpam Karyama and Uyarangalil.
