Kozhikode : Top bureaucrats were making all out efforts for smooth conduct of the 19th Commonwealth Games 2010 scheduled to be held in New Delhi from October 3-14, Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi today said.
Addressing a function after conferring Kuwait-based Haritham Foundation award on 'Chandrika' News Editor Kamal Varadoor here, he said Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh himself was coordinating the arrangements.
Stating there may be some lapases which had triggered a controversy in connection with the preparations for the event, he said it would be better to avoid a 'post-mortem' over the issue at this juncture.
On continued criticism over the issue, he said it was welcome, but ''there should be a limit'' as it could impede smooth conduct of the event and tarnish the image of the country, he said.
Later, talking to newspersons he expressed satisfication over Parliament giving its nod for the Representation of the People (Amendement) Bill, 2010 granting voting rights to nearly 25 million Non Residents Indians working abroad.
With Parliament clearance, the first phase of the process has been completed, he said, adding the ball was in the court of the Election Commission, who has to work out modalities for the voting pattern for the diaspora.
The award carries a purse of Rs 10,000 and a citation.
