Kannur: Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi today said Kerala Finance Minister T M Thomas Isaac should reply to charges levelled against him by Congress on illegal lotteries functioning in the state. Speaking at a Congress Convention organised by Kannur district Congress Committee here, he said Isaac was throwing challenges for a debate on the issue everyday before the print and visual media. Instead of throwing challenges, Isaac should reply to Congress leader V D Satheesan, MLA, who had raised the matter first in the assembly, he said. Satheesan had also demanded a CBI probe into the lottery issue.
Leader of Opposition Oommen Chandy said debate between the LDF and UDF was not the answer to the lottery issue, but stringent action against illegal functioning of lotteries in the state. Satheesan, who took the initiative in exposing large-scale corruption and irregularities in the conduct of other State lotteries, had alleged that the Finance Minister Thomas Issac was abetting the lottery mafia instead of safeguarding the coffers of the State. Later speaking to reporters, Ravi said a 'minor' amendment will be brought to the Immigration law to prevent people from illegally going to the Gulf. Ravi said he will take up the issue of cancellation of Air India Express flight services to the Gulf with the Minister concerned.
