Kollam : In a bitterly fought contest between rival panels, Vellappally Natesan was re-elected as general secretary
of Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam (SNDP), the powerful outfit of Ezhava community in Kerala. The panel led by Natesan swept the polls getting elected its candidates for all the posts, dealing a crushing blow to the rival side led by leading entrepreneur Gokulam Gopalan
The results were declared late last night.
The election to gain control of the organisation, which has under it a string of grass-root level community network across the state and several instutitions, was marred by protests and acrimony with rivals hurling abuses at each other.
Natesan, who has been at the helm of SNDP Yogam for the last 15 years, asserted that his mission was to chek the outfit from falling into the hands of vested interests.
Gopalan, who about an year back floated a forum called 'Sree Narayana Dharma Vedi', had said his battle was to free the Yogam from the clutches of Natesan and his coterie and restore it to its past glory as a movement wedded to the iedals of saint-reformer Sree Narayana Guru, who preached the message of 'one caste, one religion and one God for man.'
After the polls, Goapalan and his supporters said they would continue their fight for saving the organisation in a peaceful and democratic manner. PTI
