Thiyyanoor Narayanan Nampoothiri in new Guruvayoor chief priest
Guruvayoor: Thiyyanoor Kulathara Peeyanour Mana Narayan Namboothiri, 49, from Kavalapara in Palakkad was appointed as the new Melshanthi (chief priest) of the Guruvayoor Sree Krishna temple here on Tuesday. He will take charge for a six month period from October 1. Narayanan was selected from 56 applicants by draw of lots. His name was picked by the present Melshanthi Thekkupurathu Manakkal Unnikrishnan Namboothiri. He has been selected for the first time. Narayanan Nampoothiri had given application for the post 12 times.
He is the fifth member from Thiyanor Mana who is becoming Guruvayoor chief priest. His father Thiyyanoor Parameshwaran Nampoothiri and uncles were chief priests here. His mother is Savithri Antharjanam from Pambumekattu Manakkal. Wife Latha Antharjanam from Chandra Mana Perumbavoor. Daughters Aswathi and Athira.
