Chennai: Police booked a 13-member gang, including two Malayalees, for fake credit card scam in South Indian states. Among them one is a 17 year old and is a electronic diploma student. The gang, which was booked by a team led by city central crime branch and Annanagar police, engaged in fraudulent activities by collecting information of credit cards with the help of employees in petrol bunks, shops and jewellery showrooms.
Police also seized more than 400 fake cards from them. It is also learnt that they also distributed more than 1500 fake cards. The Malayalees were Vinod Kumar, 20 from Munnar and Sabari Rajan, 30. Police also seized goods worth Rs 15 lakh which they bought using the money. They were engaged in this for the last five years and with the help of another gang they function abroad.
The police also conducted a search on the basis of a complaint filed by Anantharaman from Annanagar whose Rs 53, 718 was looted with the help of a fake credit card.
On March 10, Anantharaman's wife filled petrol from a petrol bunk in Annanagar using a credit card. The gang which collected the details of credit card through the bunk employees gave information to the gang aboard and they made a duplicate credit card and sent it back. The Annanagar police said that Vinod Kumar was engaged in a credit card fraud for two years in Kerala too.
