Kozhikode: Health minster P K Sreemathi had a tough time on Sunday when she came on a lightning visit to Kottapparambu Government Hospital for Women and Children. When the team, including the minister, came on a sudden visit, power was disrupted, including the infant ward and post surgery wards. The minister heard the complaints of patients under mobile phone's light and also examined the problems in the hospital.
When a pregnant woman approached the minister with a complaint on frequent power cuts, the minister left the scene saying that putting up a generator would solve the problem. The minister, who came to the city on Sunday evening, went on a lightening visit to the Kottaparampu and Beach hospital with NRHM office Dr A Baburaj. The minister gave directions to correct the mistakes by detailing the various projects implemented by the government. Sreemathi also ordered a probe on issuing prescription slips to buy medicines from outside and charging money for medicine from those who have smart cards, in Kottapampa hospital.
Sreemathi also gave direction to control the number of visitors after 6.30 pm in both hospitals and also set up seats according to the ratio of beds. The minister also expressed her displeasure over not using the bed mats allotted by the government with an expense of Rs 5 crore. If there are shortages in the number of dhobies, more of them must be appointed, she said.
The toilet and courtyard of hospitals must be kept clean after appointing more grade 2 attenders. In Beach hospital the cleaning activites must be intensified during evenings. There must be a rearrangement in the present situation as only 2 head nurses are on night duty at the Beach hospital out of 29 head nurses. Their duty must be rearranged and more nurses posted on night duties.
