Man gets death sentence for hacking wife to death
Thiruvananthapuram: A man was granted death sentence for hacking his wife to death. Thiruvananthapuram first class additional sessions judge P Somarajan ordered the death sentence to D Lawrence, 41, from Manalayam who killed his wife Valsala with a knife used to cut tender coconuts. Lawrence is a tender coconut vendor. The court has also charged a fine of Rs 2,00,000. The incident happened on October 10, 2007. Valsala was staying seperately from Lawrence due to his torture. Lawrence, who followed Valsala in a bike, hacked her at Chullimannor. The court considered the statement of their children who said that Lawrence always tortured and threatened Valsala. There was no witness for the incident. Lawrence was sentenced on the basis of circumstantial and scientific evidences. The Court observed the case as a rare one. Their kids are now staying at a orphanage in Thrissur. The Court also directed Lawrence to hand over a fine of Rs 2 lakh to the kids, if he is willing to pay the sum.
