Kozhikode : The Kozhikode District Panchayat in association with Kerala government will set up a coconut development park at Kuttiyadi near here.
Talking to newspersons at a 'meet the leader' programme organised by the Calicut Press Club ahead of the ensuing civic polls in the state, former district panchayat presidednt K P Kunhammedkutty said a 138 acre plot has been identified at Manimala estate for the project.
The government and private players will have 50:50 investment in the project to be launched as part of the comprehensive development of coconut sector, he said.
Speedy action to complete the project also backed by the Coconut Development Board, was on, he claimed.
He said the outgoing panchayat had also initiated steps for setting up 43 small scale units during its tenure in various parts of the district.
It had incurred an expenditure of Rs 6.5 crore for the project, he said.
He listed various development schemes in different sectors, including health and education, and 85 per cent electrification of Pattikajathi (Scheduled Caste) colonies, initiated during its tenure in the district.
