NCP leaders, activists to quit party

Kozhikode: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in Kerala suffered a jolt as many of its leaders and about 30 activists today announced to quit it and join Congress in protest against ''dictatorial'' attitude of the party.' Talking to newspersons here, NCP Mahila Congress District President K T Jayalakshmi and Party District secretary Aboobacker Palazhi said they had decided to join the Congress, along with former KPCC President K Muraleedharan, who had been given a green signal to rejoin the party.

They said the decision was taken in protest against pro-CPI (M) attitude adopted by the NCP in the recenlty concluded civic poll in the state.

The party leadership took an adamant attitude despite State President A C Shanmughadas being informed by them about their opposition against the poll strategy, they alleged.

Some of the other leaders, who had decided to join the parent party, were Olavanna Mandalam Secretary Musthafa, Kundamangalam Block Vice-President Aneesh K K, they claimed.

Many of their followers were also expected to quit the party and join the Congress, they added.
